Live & E-Learning

Build an advisory team that relieves you from the bottleneck

The APX Advisory Teams Mentorship

Your advisory service is only as strong as the people delivering it.

The Technician to Advisor Team Programme has been designed to help accountants and bookkeepers develop the confidence, commercial thinking and communication skills needed to become valued members of your advisory team.

Rather than relying on one person to deliver every advisory conversation, you'll begin building a team that can confidently support clients, contribute to meaningful discussions and deliver a more consistent advisory experience across your practice.

Created by Tim Seymour and Deb Halliday, experienced practice owners who have built and sold their own accountancy and advisory firms.

Great advisory teams aren't built by chance

Most Accountants and bookkeepers join

your practice with excellent

technical knowledge

They know how to prepare accounts.

Complete tax returns.

Manage compliance.

Ensure accuracy.

But advisory requires a different set of skills.

It requires your team to think commercially, communicate clearly, ask better questions and understand how financial information supports better business decisions.

Without a structured development pathway, many talented team members never make that transition.

The Technician to Advisor Team Programme has been designed to help your team develop those skills in a practical, structured and achievable way.

What your team will learn

You'll recognise this programme – Technician to Advisor – but we've adapted it specifically for your team members and added in Collaborative Advisory for Teams.

While the core principles remain the same, the learning has been tailored to reflect their role within your practice, focusing on developing the confidence, communication skills and commercial thinking they'll need as valued members of your advisory team.

The programme is delivered across five practical phases, with each stage building the confidence and capability needed to become a trusted member of your advisory team.

Phase 1: Technician to Advisor

Team members begin by recognising the technician trap and understanding the shift from reactive, task-focused work to a more proactive advisory mindset. They develop greater confidence in their value and start to see how their technical expertise can support more meaningful client outcomes.

Phase 2: Thinking Commercially and Leading Better Conversations

Team members learn how to move beyond simply reporting financial information. They develop the ability to interpret what the numbers mean, communicate insights and suggestions clearly, ask better questions and contribute more confidently to advisory conversations.

Phase 3: Presenting Advisory Services

Clients need to understand the value of advisory before they invest in it.

This phase will help your team confidently present your advisory services, communicate the outcomes you deliver and structure client conversations that naturally lead to advisory engagements. They'll also develop the confidence to discuss value and pricing in a way that feels professional and authentic.

Phase 4: Leading Strategic Advisory Sessions

Team members learn how effective advisory sessions are prepared, structured and facilitated. They develop the skills to manage client discussions, handle pushback, support decision-making and maintain accountability after the meeting.

Phase 5: Building Authority

This phase helps team members build confidence and credibility as advisors. They learn how to use case studies, webinars, workshops and group sessions to share their expertise, demonstrate value and contribute to the wider authority of the practice.

Phase 6: Collaborative Advisory for Accountant and Bookkeeper Teams

Develop the skills, confidence and mindset to move beyond technical work and become a trusted advisor within your team. Learn how to coach clients through change, work collaboratively with colleagues, communicate with confidence and handle challenging client conversations professionally.

Why practice owners complete this programme first

By completing the programme yourself first, you'll gain a clear understanding of the advisory mindset, language and approach that your team will later develop.

It creates consistency across the practice and provides the foundation for building an advisory team that delivers a consistent client experience.

Everything is designed to help you move from learning to implementation and from owner-led advisory to team-delivered advisory.

Your Questions Answered

What's the difference between a membership and a mentorship?

A membership gives you access to content and resources to work through at your own pace. A mentorship combines those resources with a structured learning pathway, live workshops, practical implementation, expert guidance and ongoing support to help you apply what you learn and achieve real results. At APX, we focus on transformation, not just access.

Do I need to be delivering advisory already?

No. The pathway supports people moving from technical delivery into advisory, as well as established advisors who now need to build capability across a team.

Can my team join?

Yes. The practice owner or leader completes the programme first to understand and implement the APX methodology. Team members then join and follow the learning pathways relevant to their role.

What happens during the 10-week cohort?

You attend weekly live implementation workshops designed to help you work through the APX pathway, apply the learning and maintain momentum. Replays are available when you cannot attend live.

When do the cohorts run?

Cohorts are planned for:

September to November

February to April

May to July

Can I Join anytime?

Yes.. You'll have access to the full Programme and learning library, monthly Financial Strategy Sessions, community, Polly AI Coach and all resources. The live cohorts are designed to accelerate implementation, but the mentorship and support continue all year round.

What are the Financial Strategy Sessions?

Each month focuses on one practical financial strategy. You’ll complete the e-learning, attend a live workshop, implement the strategy and submit a case study to demonstrate your understanding. Successful completion earns you the relevant APX badge, certificate or accreditation.

What is Polly AI Coach?

Polly is the APX AI learning coach. She is trained around the APX methodology and can help you explore your learning, think through questions and prepare for implementation. She does not replace professional judgement or the live support available through APX.

What is the Business Course Library?

It is a collection of client-facing business education courses that firms can make available to their clients. The library helps clients understand key business concepts, supports advisory conversations and reduces the need to answer the same foundational questions repeatedly.

What is the minimum commitment?

The mentorship has an initial 12-month commitment. After that, it continues on a month-to-month basis.

What happens if I miss a live session

Cohorts are three times a year and you are free to join any of these whilst your subscription is active. Replays are made available through the APX portal.

Is the training CPD accredited?

Yes the training programmes are CPD accredited

Can I speak to somebody before joining?

Yes. You can book a discovery call with Tim and Deb to discuss your firm, your goals and whether the mentorship is appropriate for you.
