Created by Tim Seymour and Deb Halliday, experienced practice owners who have built and sold their own accountancy and advisory firms.

The programme is delivered across five practical phases, each building on the last to help you develop the skills and confidence of a trusted advisor.
Every successful advisory firm starts with a leader who understands the difference between technical excellence and commercial advice.
In this first phase, you'll make the shift from technician to trusted advisor, developing the mindset, confidence and commercial thinking needed to lead meaningful client conversations and become the example your team will follow.
Advisory starts with understanding the story behind the numbers.
You'll learn how to think commercially, interpret financial information from the business owner's perspective and identify the opportunities and challenges that matter most. This commercial thinking becomes the foundation for every advisory conversation you lead.
One of the biggest barriers to advisory is confidently explaining and pricing what you do.
In this phase, you'll learn how to present advisory services in a way that clients understand, communicate the value you deliver and price your services with confidence. You'll develop a structured approach that makes advisory easier to introduce, easier to sell and easier for clients to say yes to.
Learn how to facilitate structured strategy sessions that help clients move from information to action.
You'll discover how to prepare for advisory meetings, guide meaningful discussions, create accountability and deliver practical outcomes that strengthen client relationships and reinforce your value as a trusted advisor.
The most successful advisors don't wait for opportunities—they create them.
In this final phase, you'll learn how to build your authority through webinars, workshops, group programmes and educational events that position you and your practice as trusted experts. By sharing your knowledge at scale, you'll attract more advisory opportunities, strengthen client relationships and build a practice that's recognised for the value it delivers.

Who is this programme for?
This programme is ideal for:
Practice owners introducing advisory services
Accountants ready to move beyond compliance
Bookkeepers developing advisory skills
Firm leaders building advisory capability
Anyone wanting greater confidence in client conversations
The Technician to Advisor Programme is included as part of the APX Advisory Teams Mentorship and forms the first stage of your advisory learning pathway.
It provides the knowledge, confidence and commercial thinking needed before progressing into the wider advisory, leadership and team development programmes included within the mentorship

Watching training is not the same as changing the way a firm operates.
The mentorship combines flexible learning with live support so that you can understand the principles, apply them in your own practice and build them into the way your team works.

A membership gives you access to content and resources to work through at your own pace. A mentorship combines those resources with a structured learning pathway, live workshops, practical implementation, expert guidance and ongoing support to help you apply what you learn and achieve real results. At APX, we focus on transformation, not just access.
No. The pathway supports people moving from technical delivery into advisory, as well as established advisors who now need to build capability across a team.
Yes. The practice owner or leader completes the programme first to understand and implement the APX methodology. Team members then join and follow the learning pathways relevant to their role.
You attend weekly live implementation workshops designed to help you work through the APX pathway, apply the learning and maintain momentum. Replays are available when you cannot attend live.
Cohorts are planned for:
September to November
February to April
May to July
Yes.. You'll have access to the full Programme and learning library, monthly Financial Strategy Sessions, community, Polly AI Coach and all resources. The live cohorts are designed to accelerate implementation, but the mentorship and support continue all year round.
Each month focuses on one practical financial strategy. You’ll complete the e-learning, attend a live workshop, implement the strategy and submit a case study to demonstrate your understanding. Successful completion earns you the relevant APX badge, certificate or accreditation.
Polly is the APX AI learning coach. She is trained around the APX methodology and can help you explore your learning, think through questions and prepare for implementation. She does not replace professional judgement or the live support available through APX.
It is a collection of client-facing business education courses that firms can make available to their clients. The library helps clients understand key business concepts, supports advisory conversations and reduces the need to answer the same foundational questions repeatedly.
The mentorship has an initial 12-month commitment. After that, it continues on a month-to-month basis.
Cohorts are three times a year and you are free to join any of these whilst your subscription is active. Replays are made available through the APX portal.
